Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Star Wars-inspired portrait painting by Belgian artist Peter Engels, created with his signature palette knife technique in warm sepia colours.
The painting portrays Alec Guinness in his legendary role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, one of cinema’s most recognisable figures of wisdom, calm and inner strength. Peter Engels captures the character with a classic, almost timeless atmosphere, while the rough texture of the palette knife gives the portrait movement, depth and presence.
In the background, we see a typical Death Star wall panel, referring to the iconic visual language of the Star Wars universe. The geometric structure behind the figure creates a powerful contrast with the human expression of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The lightsaber is the central luminous detail of the work. Peter painted it with fluorescent paint, allowing the blade to glow in the dark. By day, the painting reads as a sepia portrait full of texture and character. In darkness, the lightsaber comes alive, giving the artwork a second dimension.
With this painting, Peter Engels brings together classic portraiture, cinema history and the symbolic power of light. It is a collector’s piece for admirers of film icons, portrait painting and contemporary interpretations of legendary characters.
