Peter Engels has happy thoughts about the iconic actor. Roger Moore was Peter Engels’ inspiration for his first important portrait painting. When he met Roger Moore, Peter Engels really found his style: the vintage style. Less colour and painted with the pallet knife.
Peter Engels met Roger Moore by accident. On a November morning, when walking on a beach near Hornbeak (Denmark), Peter Engels encountered Roger Moore walking his dog. It was cold and windy. Roger Moore wore his collar of his duffle coat high against the wind. Peter Engels recognized his idol immediately and couldn’t believe his eyes. As a teenager Peter Engels loved the Bond books by Ian Fleming. The James Bond character intrigued him. And now he actually met Roger Moore. He was the James Bond of the 80’s. The actor and the artist talked briefly and Peter Engels decided then and there to paint Roger Moore’s vintage portrait, a style he was experimenting with for a while. The Roger Moore portrait is one of Peter Engels’ favourites. To mark the historic meeting Peter Engels also painted a landscape of the exact location where he met Roger Moore. It was only steps away from Roger Moore’s beach house.
Later Peter Engels made a series of paintings of the six James Bond actors. This collection of six was first introduced during the prestigious Miami Art Week (Art Basel Miami). After Peter Engels met and painted Roger Moore he felt that he should paint the six actors that ever played the Bond part. The Bond collection was born and received the title “Bonds or Shares”.
When Peter Engels made his sculptures he created a sculpture installation which combines the six James Bond actor sculptures.
